This picture encapsulates everything I remember about Mods while growing up in the 80s. My older brother was a 3rd wave Mod revivalist and a part of San Diego's Jett Set Scooter Club. There always seemed to be 3 or 4 Vespas or Lambrettas parked in our driveway, adorned with a disproportionate amount of chrome, lights and mirrors. His crew would do rallies up and down California and would always come back with tales of riding on acid, and catching the power-pop,ska and soul bands of the time such as The Key, The Untouchables, Infantry, and Sons of Liberty. At the time I had no idea how much direct and in-direct influence his lifestyle would have on me. Long live two-stroke smoke...and always keep the faith.

I came across this shot today, and it took me off guard.
The colours in this shot are amazing, and there's a most interesting cultural irony in this shot as well. The Lambretta LI is beautiful indeed.

Being a scooterist, I am taken back by these photos. I am seldom lucky enough to see or either be grouped with a line of other beautiful vintage scoots, and even less chance since Terence's scoot was nabbed by some hoods and thrashed before its return.
I roam these streets alone.
